Anish Kapoor x Versailles

2015

Garden with a round, whirlpool-like water feature in the foreground, a grassy area, a canal or lake with boats, and rows of trees lining the horizon under a partly cloudy sky. London, United Kingdom.

Anish Kapoor’s contemporary sculptures offer a new way to see Versailles. Designed with what borders upon absolute symmetry—aligned east to west and north to south—the garden is an endless reflection of itself, creating what Kapoor calls “a place of illusions,” where unusual perspective and perceptions of space draw visitors into of alternate reality.
